Volume Two

As we work on the next evolution of FPV Guidebook, we’ve been exploring a new prototype book format designed to offer users greater flexibility and customization. While I love the aesthetic and feel of the original custom book format, the limitations of its glued, perfect-bound design have become apparent. Pages cannot be removed or replaced, and each edition functions more like a standalone book rather than part of an interconnected series.

To address these issues, we’re testing a new format using screw-post binding. This design employs separate front and back covers, held together with two screw posts. The benefits are substantial: users can easily unscrew and open the book, making it simple to replace individual pages, reorganize content, or incorporate new materials. When a new edition is released, you’ll be able to add only the components you want using extender screw posts that accommodate additional pages.

Customizable Index System

Another exciting idea we’re implementing is the removal of traditional page numbers. Instead, the book will feature alphabetical index tabs, allowing you to organize your components alphabetically by name or topic. This means you can structure your guidebook to suit your personal needs and preferences.

For example:

  • When a new edition arrives, you can simply add the pages that interest you.
  • If certain sections become outdated or irrelevant to your setup, you can easily remove them.
  • The alphabetical tabs streamlines the process of finding specific components, saving you time and effort.

Key Goals for the New Format

  1. Customizability: Empower users to adapt their guidebooks to their unique needs, whether by adding, removing, or reorganizing content.
  2. Ease of Use: Simplify the process of locating components and information through an intuitive indexing system.
  3. Longevity: Create a guidebook format that grows with users over time, transforming from individual editions into a living, evolving resource.
